Memories and Macca
By Sarah Halligan
I have the fondest memories
Of waterfalls and rain
Those days in the heart of the country
Now replaced by days of pain
As I rise to face another day
Mum's photo smiles so bright
Her beautiful face is the first I see
I still kiss her every night
I know if she was here today
The sun would always shine
They would dance to silly love songs
Sweet memories of a time
Mum, I know that you are with us
Your loving flame shines clear and bright
Please help dad win his tug of war
Between the darkness and the light
And maybe with a little luck
He'll find sweet love again
And there will be no more lonely nights
No more lonliness and pain
When I See My Daddy Smile
By Sarah Halligan
When I see my daddy smiling
I feel so very proud
Together we've walked so many miles
Weighed down by grief's dark cloud
There was a time not long ago
When his world was torn apart
Nothing I could say or do
Would mend his broken heart
But every day I tried so hard
Did my best to pull him through
To make him realise there's still a point
Now that we are two
We make the best of what we have
Our daddy daughter team
We still have our happy memories
Despite all the might have beens
Life is getting better now
Together we'll find the key
To the happiness I feel the most
When my daddy smiles at me ❤️❤️
The Dundee Law
By Sarah Halligan
There's a hill in eastern Scotland
The locals call it the Dundee Law
Where the tourists climb to see the view
And remember those who went before
Atop there is a monument
To those who in battle fell
But this place holds her memories
She guards her secrets well
The Law remembers the Christmas storm
Of eighteen seventy nine
And she remembers that distant whistle
As the train came down the line
That night the storm was wild and free
No man should have been so bold
The Tay flowed fast, her waves were high
Her waters dark and cold
The wind it blew a hurricane.
And the bridge it bowed and broke
And into the Tay all lives were lost
Amongst the lightning and the smoke
On the 28th of December
Climb the Law and listen well
In the darkness a distant whistle
This is the night she fell
There's a hill in eastern Scotland
The locals call it the Dundee Law
Where the tourists climb to see the view
And remember those who went before
I'm Leaving Home!
By Sarah Halligan
I'm running away from home today
Daddy shouted at me
How was I supposed to know
Crayons aren't allowed on the settee?
I'm running away from home today
Mummy's wearing an awful frown
I trampled mud into the carpet again
Why don't they buy one that's brown?
I'm running away from home today
My big sister told on me
All because I lifted her skirt up outside school
Well i thought it was funny heehee!
I'm running away from home today
Now even the dog is being rude!
Every time I go near him he runs away
Doesn't he like pickled onions in his food?
I'm running away from home today
Nobody around here wants me
On second thoughts maybe I'll leave tomorrow
We're going to Maccies for tea!
Taboo
By Sarah Halligan
She hasn't done her homework
She knows he'll make her stay
She yearns for her weekly punishment
Oh how she loves detention day
Her friends think she's a rebel
But this secret no one can know
A forbidden love like this one
Can never be on show
She rises early to shower
A touch of his favourite scent
The white lace beneath her uniform
Gives him her consent
Their eyes meet across the classroom
In that glance a burning fire
Now they must wait for the final bell
Before releasing their desire
Because she hasn't done her homework
And now he tells her she must stay
The punishment she longs for
Oh how she loves detention day
A Million Tears
By Sarah Halligan
I must have cried a million tears
Since the day you went away
Inside my head a million words
All the things I still wanted to say
Six years on and nothing has changed
You are my first and my last thought each day
I can't move forward and I can't go back
Am I forever to be stuck this way?
People say " oh you're just like your mum "
What I'd give to be half of you
The most beautiful person I've ever known
Only this I know to be true
Because I see you every day in my mirror
Looking back at me through our tears
Our happy lives have been stolen away
Replaced by these darkest years
I will come to your resting place again
The water will lap and the breeze will blow
I will sit and cry for you once more
For the loss only we can know
And then tomorrow I'll carry on
The world will turn again
Maybe next year it will be easier
But for now and until then
I'll carry you with me as always
Safe in my heart under lock and key
The memories I treasure forever
Of you and dad and me
A Thank You
By Sarah Halligan
I want to say a massive thank you
To you and you and you
To every single one of you
For everything you do
The last few days were really tough
Me and mum six years apart
But you guys try so very hard
To mend my broken heart
I wanted just to tell you
I appreciate so much
The love you send across the miles
I can feel your gentle touch
On we go now hand in hand
Our friendship grows and grows
Life's ups and downs we face together
The future no one knows
But of one thing I am certain
Because you've shown me that it's true
In my saddest, darkest moments
I know i can turn to you
Thank you!! Sarah H xxx
A Yellow Summer Dress
By Sarah Halligan
As I was strolling through the park
I saw a little girl
She wore a yellow summer dress
I watched her dance and twirl
She ran into her Mummy's arms
And was lifted way up high
The safest place in all the world
You really believe that you can fly
I found a bench and sat a while
She giggled on the swing
Higher and higher, not a care in the world
No thought of what tomorrow might bring
I think I shed a little tear
When she wandered over to me
She placed a buttercup in my hand
"It matches my dress, do you see?"
A beaming smile, a happy wave
"Byebye!" and homeward bound
Mummy and daughter laughing in the sun
To me the most magical sound
And now the new day gently dawns
First light wakes me from my sleep
And I realise these memories
Were always mine to keep
I wish that I had told her
To treasure every day
She had no way of knowing
The sorrow that would come her way
I miss that happy little girl
And how, oh how I miss her mum
But I'm so grateful for that memory
And the thousands more to come 💔
Blood On Your Hands
By Sarah Halligan
My name is Makan Nasiri
I am the one they never found
Forty six days searching for me
All across this broken ground
I am nothing now but memories
I am dust, a single shoe
My grave lies cold and empty
So many families torn in two
What was it that we did so wrong?
What did I do to you?
Why must the children pay the price
For the evil that men do?
I see our mother's wailing
One hundred and twenty desperate cries
We are the lost generation
How many more must die?
Still you deny your responsibility
You have nothing decent to say
Our blood on your hands will drip drip drip
Until you face your judgement day
Knackered, old and grey!
By Sarah Halligan
Will all of you still love me
When I'm knackered, old and grey?
Will anyone still listen
To the things I have to say?
Will anyone read my poems?
Will my fingers still want to type?
Will growing old disgracefully
Live up to all the hype?
The end of the cheeky messages
Nobody asking for my pics
I'll need me readers on for sure
To see all their wrinkly dicks!
Will there even be a Facebook?
Will anybody care?
Will I need a Stannah stairlift
To get me up the stairs?
I'll sit here in my rocking chair
Full of memories and tears
And go back across the miles and smiles
Through all my yester years
I have to say I had a blast
No complaints, it's been a treat!
I played the cards that life has dealt
From the bitter to the sweet
So will all of you still love me?
Will you still hold me in your embrace?
I'll be knackered, I'll be old and grey
And Bo and Obs will be round my waist!
New Dreams
By Sarah Halligan
The Liver birds are waking
The statues shined and ready
The ghosts are getting restless
The atmosphere heady
The lines are being painted
The grass is green and lush
The expectation rising
The crowd will banish the hush
The team will take the field again
The songs will fill the air
The memories of young and old
The club beyond compare
The red against the black and white
The hero that we share
The tears will fall for a legend
The Mighty mouse will be there
The time is nearly with us
The demons are all gone
The stadium is Anfield
The prize is twenty one
Lollypop 1, Sarah 0
By Sarah Halligan
The struggle is real!!
I thought I'd have a Chuppa chup
The cola one in blue
Something to suck on while I write
And please, no smutty comments from you!
Just take the paper off and pop it in
What could be easier than that?
But this little fella had other ideas
He was a right little stubborn brat!
I tried with my nails to open him up
Twisted the stick to and fro
But this little bugger was superglued shut
So off to the shed I go!
I tried with a hammer, I tried with a drill
Dad's angle grinder was no use at all!
I even tried sneaking up on it
Hit it hard with an old hockey ball!
I slumped in the corner defeated and sad
My face all sweaty and red
Vanquished by a humble little lollipop
Fuck it, I'll have a banana instead!
Magnus and the Gruffalo,s Godzilla adventure!!
By Sarah Halligan
So today i was tasked with writing something for a very special little boy called Magnus over in Edinburgh. Now Magnus is 5 years old and he loves the Gruffalo and dinosaurs. He really really loves Godzilla! He also has a pet gecko called Geccy ! Oh and Magnus had to be in the poem aswell. So I asked his dad to ask him if he could give Godzilla a present what would he give? And Magnus said a dinosaur tooth! So with a huge thank you to Julia Donaldson for the inspiration and my own childhood memories I give you Magnus and the Gruffalo,s Godzilla adventure!!
The Gruffalo said to the Gruffalo,s child
And held it up to the world as proof
"As I was walking through the deep dark wood
I found a dinosaur tooth!
Now I know Godzilla collects such things
So I'm really happy to give
But how on earth will I find him?
Does anyone know where he lives?"
The Gruffalo,s child smiled and said
"You need to go to Scotland dad
Magnus in Edinburgh will show you the way
He's a very special little lad "
Now up there in Scotland all was quiet
Mum and dad were gently creeping
Out of the room on tiptoes
Magnus was finally sleeping
Then deep in the night it happened
The sound of the wind around the room
Magnus ran to the window
To see a truly magnificent broom!
And there on the grass was the Gruffalo!
With a wave and a beaming smile
"Hello there Magnus nice to meet you
Can I borrow you for a while?
I've heard you know Godzilla
He's scary and fills me with dread
But I have a dinosaur tooth to give him
Perhaps you'd like to give it instead?
I've borrowed this broom from a witch friend of mine
It's faster than Santa's sleigh
And I've packed some scrambled snake sandwiches
We can eat them along the way!"
"What about Geccy and my dinosaurs?
They'll get lonely if I'm not there"
"Oh bring them along!" The Gruffalo said
"We have plenty of room to spare!
There's seats for us and seats for them
Come on everyone clamber on!"
The Gruffalo tapped the broomstick
3,2,1 and whoosh they were gone!
Over the buildings and over the trees
Loop the loop and twice round the moon
In the distance Magnus could see the ocean
Gruffalo said "We'll be there soon!"
The air grew warmer and Magnus knew
They'd reached Godzilla,s lair
He tapped the Gruffalo on the shoulder
"I think he's somewhere down there!"
Then the water started to bubble
And smoke began to rise
Godzilla leapt from under the water
Magnus couldn't believe his eyes!
"Next time he jumps throw him the tooth!"
Gruffalo held the broomstick steady
"Here he comes Magnus I see him
Give it your best shot, are you ready?"
With an almighty leap Godzilla rose up
Magnus could see right into his jaws
"Here Godzilla this is for you!"
As the tooth landed right in his claws
Down went Godzilla with an enormous splash
Then turned one last time in the deep
Then rose up again higher than ever
In one final thank you leap!
The water now calm they said their goodbyes
"Great job!" The Gruffalo said
"Come on my friend its nearly morning
Let's get you back to bed!"
Magnus woke up as dad came in
"Morning Magnus how was your night?
Any good dreams to tell me about?
Any amazing sights?"
Magnus smiled to himself as he remembered the night
No way was he going to snitch
And for breakfast that morning Magnus ate, can you guess?
Hahaha yes! The last remaining scrambled snake sandwich!
Yesterday Once More
By Sarah Halligan
For mum and a massive thank you to the beautiful Karen Carpenter. Mum adored her
When I was little I had you all to myself
How I miss that sweet sweet smile
I remember feeling on top of the world
With you as my guide along the miles
Rainy days and Mondays just faded away
With you I never felt blue
Nothing in this world could hurt me
As long as I was close to you
Only yesterday I was thinking back
To those perfect childhood days
For all we know and all we had
I miss you in so many ways
I had to say goodbye to love
I couldn't pull you through
The day you left I realised
I won't last a day without you
My mama, my friend, my superstar
Shine down on dad and me
We've only just begun to live
Send me a sign so I may see
There's a kind of hush in the air tonight
As I sit on your gentle shore
I pray one day we will meet again
And find our yesterday once more
Nurse Sarah
By Sarah Halligan
If you wake up in the morning
And you're feeling kinda stiff
Don't go reaching for the voddy
There's no need to smoke a spliff!
Just get yourself on Facebook
Look for Sarah's little green dot
You'll soon be feeling better
She knows how to hit the spot!
Ease yourself into the day
Pretend that nothing really matters
Nurse Sarah will bring you round again
With her gentle bedside chatter
She may need to take your temperature
Bo and Obs might make it rise
And if you're really nice to her
She may send you a surprise!
But be careful what you wish for
She doesn't want to see your c**k
Don't be that guy, don't be the one
Because you know that she will block!
So start the day with Sarah
Let her ease your troubled mind
Be nice to her, she'll be nice to you
Let's all be friendly, sweet and kind ❤️❤️🩹
Limp Larry Ep 3
By Sarah Halligan
Another terrible day for Limp Larry!
It's a lovely sunny morning
And it's Limp Larry's favourite day
At last the month of June is here
Sodor pride week starts today!
The engines are all polished
And the fat controller is here to see
He has a big announcement
What on earth could this news be?
"This is a big week for the island
It's our very first pride event
We hope it'll all run smoothly
There's been a lot of money spent!
Now Larry get over to Barrow
And fetch back our special guest star
You'll never guess who's coming
It's only Alan Carr!
He'll be riding on your footplate
As you lead the grand parade
We want Sodor pride to be the best!
Put all the others in the shade!'
Proudly Larry steamed away
To collect his famous VIP
"I'm leading the parade!" he chuffed
"I'll show them all, you'll see!"
At Barrow Alan waved "yoohoo!
Ooh Larry I like your pink!
It matches the stripes in my silky shirt
We could be twins don't you think!"
Larry chuckled as he steamed away
Alan waved to his adoring fans
Larry thought "Can't delay! Mustn't stop!
I'm the most important part of the plans!"
Now a mile up the track there was trouble
Bertie the bus was stuck on the line
A flat tyre on this day of all days
Could they get it changed on time?
Larry and Alan steamed ever closer
Bertie's driver was ready to go
Larry rounded the turn, his brakes started to burn
And everyone shouted "oh no!"
Now Alan was thrown across the footplate
The throttle lever went right up his jacksy
Larry said "oh poo!" and Alan said "ooh!
I've never had this much fun in a taxi!"
On Larry thundered unable to stop
He could see the fat controller lined up with the chuffers
"Get out of the way!" Larry started to say
As he finally smashed into the buffers!
An impact so rotten it released Alan's bottom
And he flew like a bullet from a rifle
Then crashed through the roof of the cake stand
And landed face first in a trifle!
An ambulance was called, poor Larry was appalled
The fat controller fainted in all the commotion
Then from a guerney before his hospital journey
Alan said " I declare Sodor pride week open!"
At bedtime Gordon teased Larry
"I've never known anyone mess things up like you can!
The guy off the telly all covered in jelly
Now everyone calls him the splatty man!"
